IVY'S GOURMET OFFERS COMPLETELY UNIQUE GRANOLA YOU'LL WANT TO EAT ALL DAY

IVY'S GOURMET OFFERS COMPLETELY UNIQUE GRANOLA YOU'LL WANT TO EAT ALL DAY
Move over, all you factory-produced, sugar blasted, oat-heavy granolas - there’s a new-chew in town. It’s just about that time of year when your pantry could use a purge so make some room for Sarah Tamm’s small-batch delights; time to stock up on IVY’S GOURMET granola. With a predominance of fruits, seeds and nuts as the base for all her granola blends, Tamm uses dynamic spice combinations to brighten the palette and creates interesting flavor profiles - both sweet and savory. Sure, you can purchase Chocolate Almond or Cinnamon Raisin if the “norm” is what rolls your oats. But why not be daring and try something out of the ordinary? Curry Cashew, by chance? Strawberry Rosewater? Sarah Tamm has created bold and satisfying artisanal granola, sold in several sizes from snack to bulk.
Tamm, a Canadian from the seaside town of Halifax, Nova Scotia grew up with parents who owned grocery stores and were involved in the restaurant business. Great food surrounded her, always, and the freshest of ingredients were always a priority in her childhood home. After graduating from Queens College in Toronto and then the FIT in Manhattan, Tamm turned her passion from fashion to food once she married and had children. She moved her focus away from what was dressing the outside of the body and turned her energy toward what was going inside. She moved to Westport where she and her husband settled down and they are the parents of 2 teenage daughters. IVY’S began as Sarah started experimenting with her granola recipe while cooking with her older daughter, then aged 2 (whose middle name is, you guessed it, Ivy) and the two have tweaked their recipes over the years on the quest for perfection. With her husband helping out on the business end and both daughters testing, tasting and trying new ingredient combinations, the Tamm-fam has created an epicurean delight with Sarah at the helm.
What’s so great about Ivy’s Granola? According the Sarah, IVY’S is healthy at its core because of her use of walnut oil as the base in all her recipes. Walnut oil potentially lowers heart disease due to its high concentration of Omega-3 fatty acids. While she doesn’t claim to use only organics yet, she is considering locally sourced honey as her business grows. Most importantly, says Tamm, “It’s just darn tasty.” With so many interesting flavors to choose from, IVY’S GRANOLA is super versatile. It is not a particularly crunchy granola, more the chewy variety, and the flavors are mild, not overpowering in any way. Conveniently one can purchase snack-sized bags for any/every lunch box, as long as nuts are not an issue. Buy larger sizes for your pantry shelf and you can add IVY’S to many of your staples, changing them from routine to extraordinary.
Both CHOCOLATE ALMOND and CINNAMON RAISIN are delicious in your favorite oatmeal cookie recipe. If avocado toast is on your menu, try a sprinkle of CHILI LIME or even CURRY CASHEW on top. (Don’t worry, the curry component is mild and won’t overwhelm your dish.) If sliced or baked apples are your jam, sprinkle a few scoops of the APPLE GINGER or CRANBERRY NUT on top. (Hint: if you use a drizzle of honey, the granola will hug tight to each bite.) And as far as yogurt and ice cream are concerned, a wee smattering of STRAWBERRY ROSEWATER, TROPICAL BLEND or BANANA WALNUT - or, in fact, just about any of the 13 flavors - adds great texture and some pizzazz to “just vanilla.”
Recently featured in Westport Magazine, Tamm hopes that local exposure will make IVY’S GOURMET a household name. She wants to show her daughters that they can achieve their goals and dreams by pursuing them with passion, hard work and dedication and she also wants to teach them about philanthropy. Some of IVY’S charitable partners to date are Pink Aid and Kat’s Ribbon of Hope (both breast cancer charities and Tamm sits on the board of the latter.) She is also about to partner with the Connecticut Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Foundation- an organization dear to heart after losing her mother to the terrible disease.
Tamm has social media presence, both on Facebook at Ivy’s Gourmet and also on Instagram at ivysgourmetgranola. Her website, ivysgourmet.com, is easy to use and the granola can be purchased through the site in 2.5, 10 or 24-oz bags. IVY’S GOURMET can also be found, so far, in a few Westport stores and Tamm is hoping to expand her retail presence as soon possible. For now, go get some at Double L Market and Organic Market in Westport, both locations of Garelick and Herbs, Rye Ridge Deli, The Pantry in Fairfield, Span in Southport, and also at the Kaia Yoga studios throughout Fairfield County.

MEET SARAH TAMM OWNER OF IVY'S GOURMET GRANOLA
“I live and breathe granola”, says Sarah Tamm, owner of Ivy’s Gourmet Granola. This resident entrepreneur even dreams about granola. But that’s a good thing!
Sarah has come up with 15 unique flavors of gourmet granola, ranging from sweet to savory. She pleases people’s palates with her clever culinary combinations. There is something for everyone. Indulge in Cinnamon Raisin Granola, Cranberry Nut Granola, or even her newest flavor, Curry Cashew Granola. What’s Sarah’s personal favorite? That would have to be the Hazelnut Coffee Granola. Chocolate lovers, rejoice! This delicious delicacy even has dark chocolate in it. Delish!
Sarah has drawn inspiration from her family in creating her unique flavors. Pumpkin Rum Raisin Granola was born from her mother’s taste for rum raisin ice cream, which was always in the freezer. Chili Lime Granola was invented because Sarah’s husband loves lime chips.
Other tasty treats include Strawberry Rosewater Granola, Pineapple Macadamia Granola, and Tropical Blend Granola. Lemon Lavender Granola, which Sarah calls a sleeper hit, is her bestseller. You’ll just have to try it for yourself. With lemon, lavender florets, and slivered almonds, it’s a citrusy treat that people ask for time and time again.
Ivy’s Granola, which was started in September 2017, is available online (ivysgourmet.com) as well as stores. You can find this handmade granola in Double L Market, Kaia Yoga Studios (in Westport, Darien, Greenwich, Old Greenwich), Rye Ridge Deli, Garelick & Herbs (in Westport and Southport), The Organic Market and The Pantry in Fairfield. Sarah did a lot of pop up markets in the fall, which was a great way to gain exposure and for people to sample her selections.
What’s even more impressive is that Sarah does her business all by herself (with the help of her supportive family). She designed her own graphics and does all her printing at home. She markets Ivy’s Granola on social media through Facebook and Instagram. Her daughters, who like offering constructive criticism, help label the bags. Sarah’s husband is CFO of the business and uses his expertise to calculate shipping nationwide, which is no easy task. “We ship around the country,” says Sarah.
Best of all, Sarah likes giving back to the community. She shares, “My parents were very generous.” She followed in their footsteps and gives back to Pink Aid, donating 550 bags of granola in October last year. Her business was only 3 weeks old at the time, but it was worth every ounce of effort. Sarah also held a promotion in October and gave back 15% of sales to Pink Aid. Sarah also gives back to Kat’s Ribbon of Hope and the Near and Far Gala.
SARAH’S BACKGROUND
Sarah grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her family owned several grocery stores and restaurants to the food industry was a natural fit for her. Sarah’s mother loved to bake and instilled the love of baking in her daughter.
Sarah got interested in making granola when her sister made a healthy muffin with lots of seeds and dried fruit in it.
“It was so yummy,” says Sarah. While she was always making muffins, she decided to try something different. She thought, “Why not granola?” After all, she always added dried fruit, seeds, and nuts into her granolas and oatmeal. Soon her business became a sweet success. Sarah named her business, Ivy after the middle name of her daughter, Madison.
This resident entrepreneur was prompted to open her own business when her two daughters were getting older. She wanted to create something of her own and she did just that with Ivy’s Gourmet Granola. Prior to opening her own business, Sarah was a fashion executive at Bloomingdale’s but has now reconnected with her roots.
When she isn’t working, Sarah likes spending time with her family. Her two daughters are ages 11 and 14 and attending BMS and Staples respectively. Her oldest daughter excels in winter track. She loves fashion, food trends, and music festivals. Her youngest daughter plays lacrosse, loves swimming, skiing, and hanging out with her friends.
Sarah’s husband is a money manager and business consultant. He loves lifting weights, skiing, and is active in his Estonian community. As for Sarah, she likes cooking and baking. She also enjoys weightlifting, having friends over in the summer for BBQs, and putting together family albums.
Sarah and her family reside in Greens Farms, where they have lived since 2009.
We are honored to feature Sarah Tamm in this month’s issue. For more information on her business, just check out her website, www.ivysgourmet.com.

BECAUSE CHAI FIG GRANOLA SHOULD BE A THING

BECAUSE CHAI FIG GRANOLA SHOULD BE A THING
Sarah Tamm lives in Westport with her husband and two daughters. Growing up, she lived in the seaside town of Halifax, Nova Scotia, with her mom, an avid cook and baker, and dad, who owned his own grocery stores and restaurants. “We had many conversations around the dinner table growing up. Plus, whenever we went on vacation my dad would drag us through grocery stores to check out the competition,” says Tamm. “Food surrounded my life. It’s been a part of me.”
That’s why it’s no surprise that after having her daughters and leaving her career in fashion, she decided to start an artisanal granola business, Ivy’s Gourmet. “I’ve always been an avid baker and two years ago I started playing around with granola,” says Tamm. “It was new and something I hadn’t done before, so I wanted to take on the challenge.” Ivy’s Gourmet currently offers 13 different flavors of granola (and counting), all loaded with fruits and nuts, layered with spices and extracts, and baked to small-batch perfection.
Tamm’s inspiration for new flavors comes from anything. For example, Ivy’s Gourmet’s Chili Lime flavor was inspired by her husband’s love for chili lime chips. The Cinnamon Raisin a nod to one of her favorite childhood cereals, raisin bran, while the Chai Fig was inspired by her more recent affinity for chai tea lattes. When asked her favorite flavor, Tamm joked, “That’s like asking me who my favorite child is!”
A big believer in healthy eating, Tamm found that typical store-bought granola is heavy with oats, so she ensures her granola is packed heavily with things nuts and fruits. “I don’t claim to follow any dietary fads,” she says. “I just say I make damn good granola.” Her granola can be eaten on top of yogurt, with almond milk, baked into cookies, made into crumbles, or just snacked on its own. The wide array of flavors makes Ivy’s Gourmet a versatile addition to the pantry.
Like her parents, Tamm is big into giving back. Ivy’s Gourmet donates product and a portion of proceeds to support local charities like Pink Aid, Kat’s Ribbon of Hope, and the Connecticut chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. In addition to giving back to the community, one of Tamm’s biggest hopes for Ivy’s Gourmet is that it will empower her daughters. “I like that my daughters are seeing me, as a woman, starting my own business,” she says. “I hope they get inspired to have their own business one day, like I was by my dad.”
